Stick Series

This is one of my passion projects. It all started when I saw a solitary stick resting on the pavement. There were no trees nearby, which set off my curiosity. I thought, “How did this stick come to be here? What terrain had it traversed in order to find itself in front of me?”

Of course, that then made me reflect on my own existence and how I came to be there as well, staring down upon the lone stick.

This experience stuck with me for minutes to the point where I had to draw it to get it out of my head. And, thus, my Stick Series began. I didn’t know then that it would become a full series of seven meaningful sticks, but life is full of surprises.

These seven significant sticks should be viewed in order (1 through 7) as each one builds upon the one that comes before it. As the works progress, you will begin to see more nuance as I explore more intricate stick forms. Looking through the full series ending with the show-stopping final work, I hope you will begin to view sticks with greater appreciation. At least that is the intent of my work.
